La
Creme Patisserie is a family run business. As a couple
Sian & Ian are a highly motivated specialist team. Sian
has a passion for food and Ian has a passion for
business.
Sian
has a Ba Home Economics from Liverpool University. After graduating,
Sian started her career with Tesco Stores Ltd. based instore in North London.
Whilst working for Tesco, her role involved new product
development, quality control and public relations - going out and giving
talks and cookery demonstrations and promoting Tesco at
county fairs.
After taking time out to raise 3 children, Sian continued
her education with further courses in Cordon Bleu cookery and
more recently she achieved a NVQIII in Confectionery and Patisserie at Neath Port Talbot College.
Whilst studying Sian won the Welsh Master Baker Digby Jones Award for petit
fours and the Quality Meats trophy for being the most
outstanding student on her course. Sian started developing
her business portfolio working from home over two years.
More recently Sian was runner up in the UK Patissier of the Year competition organised
by the British Baker and she was a finalist in the Swansea Bay Business
Woman of the Year competition held at the
Brangwyn Hall, Swansea on the 30th November 2007.
Ian is
a qualified accountant. In 1994 Ian started his own business which manufactured
polythene bags and having grown the business to a turnover of over £4 million
he sold his shareholding in May 2005. Previously Ian had been employed as
UK Management Accountant for McDonald Douglas Information Systems and later Factory Manager
for HPC Group based in Brentford.
Sian &
Ian wished to combine their talents and work together –
so in December 2005 they found a suitable premises and launched
La Crème Patisserie. After a successful first year trading,
Sian and Ian had their fourth child - an adored new baby girl in December 2006.
(This was not part of the business plan).
In June 2009 the business expanded into a new industrial unit on the Baglan Energy Park from which it now
supplies cakes to restaurants, hotels and coffee shops across South Wales.
